Florida College Bowl Games

With the season's traditional wintertime wrap-up, attending a college football championship game can chill even the most devoted fan. Serving a sunnier venue to spectators otherwise shivering their way through the play-offs, six bowl games have made their winter homes in Florida.

It all starts with the St. Petersburg Bowl, Florida's newest bowl game, and the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando in December. On New Year's Day, score tickets for the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, the Outback Bowl in Tampa or the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl in Jacksonville. Top it off with Miami's FedEx Orange Bowl on Jan. 5.

Bowl Games
St. Petersburg Bowl
Rutgers University v. University of Central Florida
Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg
Dec. 19 at 8 p.m.

At the newest bowl on the block, a Conference USA team competes against a Big East opponent at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays. Pre-game festivities begin with Dinner and a Movie, where the public is invited to watch a feature film on two large screens outdoors. Hit the sand for the free Beach Bash at the Tradewinds Island Resort on St. Pete Beach. Laid-back activities such as a belly flop contest, a Hula-hoop contest and an inflatable boxing ring give you a chance to take in a bit of the famous Florida Gulf Coast. The night before the game, each team's marching band parades through the streets of downtown St. Pete. Festivities round out with the Fan Zone Tailgate.
Champs Sports Bowl
University of Wisconsin v. University of Miami
Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, Orlando
Dec. 29 at 8 p.m.

The bowl game bonanza begins with the Champs Sports Bowl, matching a leading team from the ACC against its equal in the Big 10 in downtown Orlando's Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. Fans love a good pre-game rally and this agenda doesn't disappoint. Join the Champs Sports Bowl team pep rallies on the eve of the big event. On game day, perpetuate the pep and circumstance at Best Buy FanZone, the official pre-game party with live music and inflatable games and face painting for the kids.
Outback Bowl
University of Auburn v. Northwestern University
Raymond James Stadium, Tampa
Jan. 1 at 11 a.m.

Before you fixate on the 50-yard line of Tampa's Raymond James Stadium, look upward. In the hours before third-ranked Big Ten and SEC teams do battle, the U.S. Marine Corps flyover soars overhead in Outback tradition. For free fun for the entire family, catch marching bands and cheerleading squads lead this parade through Ybor City.
Capital One Bowl
Louisiana State University v. Pennsylvania State University
Citrus Bowl, Orlando
Jan. 1 at 1 p.m.

Capital One pits the second seeds from the Big Ten and the SEC against each other. The bowl celebrates its 64th anniversary in 2010 and pre-game grandstanding won't let you forget it. The celebration starts with the annual Orlando Citrus Parade, when floats fashioned of fresh Florida citrus make their way through downtown Orlando and into the homes of millions of television viewers nationally. The Capital One FanFest starts early, turning the Citrus Bowl Stadium into a "virtual college football midway" with interactive games.
Konica Minolta Gator Bowl
West Virginia University v. Florida State University
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, Jacksonville
Jan. 1 at 1 p.m.

The Konica Minolta Gator Bowl will give two college teams from the Bowl Championship Series the opportunity to tough it out in Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. A traditional tailgate precedes the game, but fans should note the Adventure Landing Player's Outings scheduled the week prior. The outings open Jacksonville Beach's Adventure Landing, packed with go-karts, miniature golf, laser tag, arcade games and the like.
FedEx Orange Bowl
University of Iowa v. Georgia Technical University
Land Shark Stadium, Miami Gardens
Jan. 5 at 8 p.m.

Florida’s oldest Bowl and the only Bowl game in the state that is part of the Bowl Championship Series, the FedEx Orange Bowl always guarantees fun in the sun. From the moment the teams, cheerleaders, mascots and fans arrive for events such as the Orange Bowl Fan Fest and Budweiser Orange Bowl Tailgate Party, the action is as hot as the climate. The game brings together two of the nation’s finest teams at South Florida’s Land Shark Stadium, where a headlining halftime show is sure to keep you in your seat.
