It was by far the most romantic Valentine’s Day I’ve ever enjoyed.
A couple of years ago, my husband and I renewed our wedding vows in a ceremony at the beach at Lovers Key. To say it was special is a vast understatement. The ocean and the gulls sang while we repeated our vows; the air smelled fresh and clean and like salt; and Ma Nature painted the sky orange and pink. I wore a long dress – my original wedding gown from 25 years ago – but I had bare feet, and Paul was handsome and slim in a dark suit.
After the ceremony, we strolled down the beach hand in hand. We didn’t say much but we didn’t need to.
And you can take part in a similar ceremony.
Couples are invited to the park for the Vow Renewal Ceremony, which includes champagne punch and cake served to music, plus a photo snapped at sunset. It only costs $45 a couple to take part.
More news to twirl your beach towel?
You’ll be entered into a drawing for a Valentine's Night stay and $75 dining certificate donated by the nearby Lovers Key Resort and Hotel. The drawing will be held Feb. 7, 2012, so if you win, you can make plans to spend the night.
I’d surf over to the website and register before the next high tide: you only have until Feb. 6, 2012.
Insider’s Tip: If you’re looking for a snuggly place to spend the night, the Pink Shell Resort and the Edison Beach House in Fort Myers Beach are both top notch.
