Pensacola is a largely unheralded but fabulous place to scuba dive, boasting more than 1000 dive sites in water ranging from depths of 15 to 180'. Click here to check out some places that offer it. Whether you're a first-timer or an expert diver, you’ll find something to tickle your fins. 

An active port since the 1600's, Pensacola has amassed an impressive collection of historic shipwrecks due to tropical storms and war; in addition, the waters possess abundant deliberately sunk vessels. The divable wrecks even include a few wooden hulled vessels that date to the pre-Revolutionary War era. Some of the more popular wrecks are the Russian Freighter, Navy YDT's, Pete Tide II, Sylvia, Philip, Born Again, Catherine, USS Massachusetts, Tug Heron, Antares, and the Avocet. 9th century

If you like to whack those little white balls, here are some places to golf. I’m not exactly a Tiger Woods, though I will have you know I HAVE shot several holes in one at the putt-putt course by the beach – no mean feat! I think sailing is a must-do. Paul and I ventured out with our friends Kathi and John on their stunning 40-foot sailboat for 2 days. I loved to balance on the edge of the boat as it leaned and cut through the swells.  It was relaxing, though there was always enough to do that I never felt bored. The weird deal was that it took me about half a day to get accustomed to being on land again. When I closed my eyes in the shower I would nearly fall over. You can rent a boat, take a captained sail for an afternoon (or a week!) or take lessons at Lanier Sailing Academy.

Radical Rides will rent you a wave runner or take you parasailing.

You’ve probably heard of the Naval Aviation Museum, with its incredible Blue Angels exhibit. Admission is free – you can’t beat that with a stick! Here’s their website and here are some VISIT FLORIDA articles about it.
