No, please do not call my editors and recommend that I be committed. They already know that I’m crazy, anyhow. What I’m talking about is the July 19th Red Bull Flugtag. This is the whacked-out event where the brave, creative and slightly crazy will be launching their homemade creations off a 22 foot ramp above Tampa Bay outside the City Park at Tampa Convention Center.
The Red Bull Flugtag is free and open to the public.
Forty teams of up to five members each will be judged on three criteria: distance, creativity and showmanship.

Bobby got his contraption finished, and yesterday evening, he FLEW her! We all piled into the little car we use to pull hang gliders around the field at Quest (the airport I fly my glider out of) and drove out to the runway. Bobby climbed into the harness he had made, and we towed him into the air with the car (yes, we thought about using the plane to tow him, but decided we liked Bobby too much).
He only flew maybe 15 feet high and the glider was a tic sensitive in pitch -- but is this not the coolest thing in the world? Bobby thinks she can perhaps win. I think he’s right.
