So, aren’t you curious whom he picked?
Dr. Beach’s annual list of the ten best beaches in the country just came out, generating more buzz than an electric fish. To say Dr. Beach is a beach expert is sort of like saying Florida is sunny: a vast understatement. This internationally renowned coastal scientist has 16 published books to his name as well as literally hundreds of scientific articles. He knows about the impact of storms and erosion and ways to improve beach health and safety.
He also happens to be the ultimate authority on the sweetest seashores to get some sand between your toes, and uses a whopping 50 criteria to judge beaches, including water and sand quality as well as safety and environmental management.
So, all right already. Don’t get your beach towel in a twist! Here are the Florida beaches in the results.*
Dr. Beach ranks Siesta Key in Sarasota as the number two beach in the country, remarking on its fine, white sand and clear, warm waters that are ideal for swimming, the enormous width of the beach and its unique underwater formation of coral rock and caves, which make it the bomb for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne also makes the list, cited for its emerald-colored waters and gentle surf as well its fine, white coral sand, swimming, and the views of the beach from Cape Florida Lighthouse.
Just one more reason to throw your sandals and sunscreen in a beach bag and head to the Sunshine State!
