You’ve heard that saying slow and steady wins the race. Hardly.
In the sport of adventure racing, it’s more like, fast, fit, cunning and smart wins the race, unless you get really unlucky.
We’ll see who remembered their thinking caps and who has the gumption to push their paddling to the max when the Turkey Burn Adventure Race trots into Sorrento on Nov. 28, 2009. In this one-day version of the Amazing Race, teams of two solve clues to find checkpoints – and smarts can indeed beat speed.
The race’s challenges will involve paddling the Wekiva River, as well as biking and trekking in Rock Springs Run State Reserve. The four-hour sport division is geared towards the folks attempting their first adventure race event, while the Turkey Burn 12-hour elite adventure race is the finale to the 2009 Pangea Series. Canoes, paddles and life vests will be provided. The race starts and finishes at Wekiva Falls Resort.
