You’d expect that the biggest annual hang gliding gathering on the planet would be rocking like Hendrix, and the Wills Wing Demo Days at Wallaby Ranch near Orlando didn’t disappoint in 2009.
Guests splashed in the pool, noshed on BBQ and corn on the cob dipped in butter, danced to the live band, swapped tales with old and new friends, skimmed the ground in the scooter tow clinic, flew the latest hot ships from Wills Wings and relaxed under the generous trees shading the picnic areas. The air was rich with oranges and pine needles baking in the sun; the gliders swirling patterns in the sky were a feast for the eyes.
Check out Wallaby’s calendar if you’re in town, or buzz out to the Ranch for a tandem hang gliding discovery flight. Quest in Groveland also offers tandem hang gliding flights, and Paradise Hang Gliding promises to satisfy if you have a yen to soar over the Gulf. Here’s an article I wrote titled ‘Hang Gliding at Wallaby Ranch’ that explains how the whole thing works.

| This is my U.S. Women’s Hang Gliding teammate Linda and I arguing about which of us is better. Actually, Linda is the number one ranked female hang glider pilot in the U.S.; I (tragically) am ranked number two. |
