| Lots of Options for New Florida Residents |
| Asked by Bridget Shearron on February 03, 2012 |
| Q: Hello, I'm moving to Florida October of this year, but haven't decided on the city. I'm a baby boomer, so I'm looking for a city that has luxurious offerings, a lot of shopping (smile), fun night life, a lot of things to do during the day. So, aside from Miami, can you suggest a few cities for me to choose from? I'd appreciate it. Thanks Bridget |
|
A: Hi Bridget! Welcome to Florida! You really can't pick a better place to make your new home. While I can't tell you the best city - they're all so great - I can give you some insight on what happens in each region of our state. It seems that you already know about Miami, which is a fabulous place that has everything you described and more. Some other great areas that have lots of great shopping, nightlife and day time recreation include Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers-Naples area. If you're looking for cities that are a little smaller, check out St. Petersburg, St. Augustine, and West Palm Beach. You'll love living in Florida. Your list is a tough one and there are many places here in the Sunshine State where every single thing you're looking for is available in abundance. Good luck! You're coming to the right place. |

| Diversity is a Definite Plus for Florida |
| Asked by Ann on June 02, 2010 |
| Q: Where can we stay in Florida that is welcoming to bi-racial and diverse couples? |
|
A: Hi Ann, You're coming to the right place! Florida is extremely hospitable to everybody who visits here - regardless of your race, culture or creed. There are many reasons and ways Florida ranks as a progressive state. One of the most important is the fact that Floridians often come from other places all around the world, so no matter who you are you're among friends. Here in Florida, we don't know a stranger. While you're here, you'll see welcoming smiles from your Florida hosts who recognize and appreciate the beauty of diversity and the strength it brings to a community. |

| CSI Miami in Miami |
| Asked by Rosalyn Peach on May 18, 2010 |
| Q: Does the tv show CSI Miami have a tourist spot? |
|
A: Hi Roslyn, What a great question. CSI Miami is an interesting show that is actually shot in several locations around the United States - depending on the storyline. You can see many of the great elements of Miami that are mentioned or featured on the show while in Miami. One great example is that South Beach as been a regular subject on CSI Miami. If you go to Miami and head down to South Beach you'll see many sites that look very familiar. But, I think you'll be pleasantly excited by the many sites there are to see in Miami, whether they've made it on the show or not. Enjoy! |
| Diversity is great in Orlando |
| Asked by jay on May 17, 2010 |
| Q: Where is the Afro-American part of town near the Disney area? |
|
A: Hi Selina, You'll be happy to know that there is diversity all over Disney World and the surrounding area! Orlando and Kissimmee are areas known for welcoming different cultures and people from all around the world. While I know that you'll be able to find the culture you are looking for anywhere in Orlando, I think you'll have particular fun at Universal Studios City Walk and Church Street Station - which is actually in the downtown area of Orlando. Both of these spots keep the good times going. Look for the Bob Marley - A Tribute to Freedom Cafe at Universal CityWalk. It's always "Jammin'!" Have a great trip! |

| From St. Petersburg to Ellenton - Worth Finding a Way |
| Asked by Mary Beth on April 13, 2010 |
| Q: Is there a bus or shuttle that will take shoppers from St.Pete's to the Prime outlets in Ellenton? I'm going to be visiting my parents there and won't have a car to drive on my own, so I'm looking for some suggestions! Thanks!! |
|
A: Hi Mary Beth, I've been doing some research on this question for you. I did not find a shuttle that takes shoppers from St. Petersburg to Ellenton. But, there are several great shopping opportunities in St. Petersburg. These include Downtown's Beach Drive shopping district, where cool, shops line Central Ave nue and Beach Drive. Be sure to check out Coco Brazil in the 400 block of Beach Drive. There's also Tyrone Square Mall - a shopping mall where you'll find more than 70 stores. If youa re able to find a ride to Ellenton, it will certainly be worth the rip. It's just a short distance but you'll find that the bargains you'll find on designer brands will go very far. Good luck - and have a great time! |

| The Best Malls in Orlando |
| Asked by craig on April 05, 2010 |
| Q: Hi Kanika, We are coming to Orlando in two weeks and are trying to narrow down a few malls to hit while we are in orlando do you have any suggestions? |
|
A: Hi Craig, Absolutely! You are headed to the right place. There is GREAT shopping in Orlando. The Mall at Millenia is one of my all time favorite malls. There you'll find beautiful stores filled with sophisticated fashion that includes the latest trends and timeless classics. You also must check out the outlets in Orlando. There are several. The best part about mall shopping in Orlando is that you can find all of these options right off the main travel corridor of Interstate-4. They are all on, or right off International Drive, which makes going from one to the other a very feasible outing. Prepare to be impressed. Happy shopping! |

Bonappetit Grill is on Orange Blossom Trail and you'll find Loudy's Creole Restaurant on West Oak Ridge Road. I'm getting hungry just thinking about the great food that's there. Go hungry. You'll leave happy. |
| It's Salsa Time in Miami |
| Asked by CECILE CARLIER on April 02, 2010 |
| Q: Hello I am looking for a band of minimum 3 people for a meet and greet at the hotel Royal Palm in Miami on October 27th. I have group of 60 people arriving that day at the hotel and they want a salsa band playing upon their arrival. It won't last more than 45 min/1hour and would be for their check in only. Thank you very much, Regards, Cecile |
|
A: Hi Cecile, I don't know of a specific salsa band that can come out and meet your party at the Royal Palm Hotel. But, I can recommend three different salsa clubs that can provide an opportunity for a great time while you're visiting. Cafe Mystique, Bongo's Cuban Cafe and Drake's of Kendall are all really nice salsa clubs - and perhaps they can give you a name and contact for a band that will come out to meet you. Salsa can definitely be a part of your plans in Miami. Have a great time! |

| From Scotland's Snow to Florida Sun and Fun |
| Asked by Iain Cropper on March 31, 2010 |
| Q: Hi Kanika My wife and I are coming over May 27th to June 10th. We live in Scotland. We are staying in Orlando. We like to go for a night or two elsewhere. I was thinking Palm Bay or Melbourne (I know they are close). Our 21-year-old son is coming too. We will be looking for nightlife (Bars/Live Music/Restaurants). Can you recommend an area to stay? Any help appreciated. Iain from a snowy Scotland |
|
A: Hi Iain, You're coming to visit at just the right time. The weather is GORGEOUS! And, there are lots of great things to do. Melbourne or Palm Bay will be nice choices...but have you thought about Tampa. It's just about 90 miles west of Orlando and features many great nightlife opportunities. You can check out the Channelside District - a waterfront entertainment complex that includes several fine hotels, or Ybor City, it's been around since the turn of the century and is infused with Cuban culture and flavor. If you do go with Melbourne you won't be disappointed. It's a beautiful town - but, there's definitely more nightlife in Tampa Bay. Have a blast! |

| Layover Fun in Miami |
| Asked by crystal on March 26, 2010 |
| Q: My friend and I have a 5 hour layover in Miami on Sat., April 16. Ive never been to Miami and would like to do something fun close to the airport that won't break the bank. Any ideas? |
|
A: Hi Crystal, A five-hour layover in Miami is just enought time to have a great time. If I were you I wouldn't venture too far. Remember, Miami is an international airport. You should be sure to allow enough time to successfully clear security screening and check-in for your flight. But, as long as you plan to get back within a two-hour window, you'll be fine. I recommend you check out Coconut Grove. Grab a nice meal and see some of the area's beautiful homes and Mediterranean architecture. The grove has great restaurants and good shopping too. Have a safe trip and have fun! And, be sure to make your way back to Miami some time when you can stay longer. You'll find it's a great place to play. |
| South Beach Fun at Springtime |
| Asked by Michelle on March 25, 2010 |
| Q: My travel will be 4/12-17. I am coming alone. I am 39-years-old and don't want to shop much. I want to eat a variety of cultural foods, sightsee, enjoy the beach and dance with a mature crowd. I plan to stay on Collins Ave, but don't want that to be the only place I see. Are there special events during this time and where can I go to be around a more mature crowd and not break the bank? |
|
A: Hi Michelle, So, you're coming to South Beach in April? Well, you're sure to have fun. Not only will you find plenty of opportunities to enjoy all of the activities you mentioned, but there are many other things to keep you busy as well. You can always find a good time in South Florida and there is a local festival of one kind or another almost every weekend. You should plan to check out the summer concert series in Miami. On the 12th the Florida Marlins are playing the Cincinnati Reds and on the 16th you can catch the Sicilian Film Festival at the Miami Beach Cinematheque. Have a blast! |
| Miami's a Great Place - Even When the Beach is not in Your Plans |
| Asked by SANDRA NICOLAS on March 20, 2010 |
| Q: Hi My parents and I are planning to go to Miami. My parents are about 50-years-old. They want to shop above all else. However, they live on a French Island so they are not really interested in going to the beach, pool, etc. Which part of Miami can we find a nice hotel around a shopping mall? (We will only use a taxi) Nice breakfast and dinner options are important too. The mall my mother is interested in include: Aventura, Dolphin Mall, Sawgrass Milla and flea markets. Thanks in Advance |
|
A: Hi, You're going to have a great time in Miami. While the beaches are beautiful, there are definitely lots of activities to keep you busy and entertained, even if you never plan to catch any waves. I think that you should check out the Trump Hotel. It's just a short distance from Aventura Mall and is on a busy strip loaded with plenty of options for eating - all in walking distance. The other shopping detsinations you mentioned are a little farther away, but you can get there by taxi, for sure. You'll have a great time in Florida. We're glad you're coming! |

| A Nice Place Where Ten Can Stay |
| Asked by Kathy on March 09, 2010 |
| Q: Hi, We have a family girls group that take a trip every year in July. We were planning to go to St. Augustine this year but are having some difficulty finding a house/condo to accommodate 10 ladies that is not too expensive. We love to shop in unique shops and see the local sites. We went to Amelia Island three years ago and loved it. If St. Augustine doesn't work out can you suggest another location for us? |
|
A: Hi Kathy, That trip really sounds like fun! Do you guys have room to make it 11?!? I'd love to come along. Seriously, there are lots of options for your trip that can really be a blast. Two that immediately come to mind are the Longboat Key Club in Longboat Key and Vist Cay in Orlando. Let me tell you a little about each. Longboat Key Club is a wonderful place to get away. It fits all of your criteria. The resort offers fabulous multiple-bedroom accomodations that can easily fit 10. A stone's throw from Sarasota, you'll have your pick of world-class restaurants and shopping. Sarasota's downtown has to-die-for boutiques. Vista Cay is an Orlando Resort that features condo and townhome rentals. These fully-furnished properties include three-bedroom units and a sleeper sofa that makes sleeping 10 look like child's play. Not only are the grounds beautiful, but with everything that's all around, you can find more shopping and fun than you can fit into one get away. If you go the Orlando route, check out the winery nearby and maybe venture over to Mount Dora, Winter Haven or Lakeland for a great day of antiquing. You guys will have a blast! |

| A Great Time in Key West |
| Asked by Helen on February 09, 2010 |
| Q: Hello! We are a family of six (2 adults and 4 teens) visiting my in-laws in Florida. I'd like to take my family shopping but not in a mall, more like outdoor shops or markets. We would also like to have a dinner with a show, we did Medieval Time last year and they loved it! We'll stay in Boynton Beach so anything nearby would be great. How about Key West? What can we do there? Thank you very much! |
|
A: Helen, You asked about Key West and I think this is a fabulous choice. Key West is a haven of culture and relaxation. It's a great getaway. Your kids will love hanging out at Mallory Square, where live street performers entertain as you watch the Sunset. The adults in tow will get a kick out of Duval Street. Every night it comes alive with loads of fun and social happenings. While you're there don't forget to try Kelly's Restaurant. It houses a microbrew inside and makes for a tasty treat. And, the Key Lime Pie - we're talking the real thing. It'll have you coming back every year for more. You guys will have a blast - I promise!

| A low-key but Super Fun Spring Break on St. Pete Beach |
| Asked by Katelynn on January 24, 2010 |
| Q: I'm planning a nice spring break for two mid-twenties ladies. We don't want to be surrounded by crazy juvenile undergrads, and we love live music, good food and shopping. Any ideas for where we might like to start looking? |
|
A: Hi Katelynn, Sounds like fun. I know just the spot...You should check out St. Pete Beach on Florida's West Coast. It sits on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico and provides lots of options for entertainment, without going completely crazy. You'd definitely want to rent a car because one of the best features of St. Pete Beach is that it is one of nearly 20 beach municipalities that line the West Coast of Florida between Sarasota and New Port Richey. You can literally hop in your car and catch fun times going on in a different little city every day, all within an hour's drive of each other. You can also head east into the mainland and take in fun times in Tampa and nearby Sarasota, even Tarpon Springs for a cultural twist. |

Here in the Sunshine State we're lucky to have fantastic shopping opportunities in every corner. Here are a few of my favorites. Be sure to check out the outlet shopping in Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Destin. Here you'll find the world's best brands at really reasonable prices. You'll also want to be sure to check out our boutiques in Palm Beach, South Tampa and South Beach...and you cannot forget about Jacksonville, where shopping is one of my favorite reasons to visit. A: Hi Arthur, There are lots of destinations that will deliver what you're looking for. Without knowing the region of the state where you'll be traveling it's a little hard to say. But, I'll steer you to some of my favorites: Downtown Lakeland and Dade City definitely fit your description. These quaint towns turn into a picture perfect dream during the holidays. If you're in North Florida, be sure to check out First Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach. Through Christmas Eve they're featuring a live nativity scene. It's quite spectacular. You'll love it! |
| Getting from South Beach to Sawgrass |
| Asked by Gwen on November 24, 2009 |
| Q: My husband and I will be visiting Miami - South Beach for two days only on a Saturday and Sunday. Could you please advise on the best transportation arrangements getting from South Beach to Sawgrass Outlet, preferably without having to hire a carLook forward to hearing from you in due course. |
|
A: Gwen - girl - you're going to have to work it out to get from South beach to Sawgrass. But, you'll find it's well worth the trip. Sawgrass Outlet Mall has all the great bargains and latest fashions for fantastic prices. As you know, the trip takes about an hour. You might do best by taking the tri-rail. It's a train system that runs between West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Once you determine the best schedule that fits with your travel plans the only thing left to figure out will be getting to the station at each end. I'm sure a short taxi ride will do the trick. Have a great time! Kanika |
| New Year's Eve in Orlando |
| Asked by Zarina on November 20, 2009 |
| Q: Hi we are arriving in Orlando on New Years Eve - where is the best place to be to celebrate the New Year?Zarina |
|
A: Hi Zarina, New Year's Eve in Orlando is great fun! Orlando is considered by many to be the entertainement capital of the country every day - imagine New Year's Eve! There are lots of fun options for you to consider. Two of my favorite are Universal City Walk and Church Street Station. Universal City Walk is always filled with fun on New Year's Eve. This year they are planning a throwback concert performance by the Doobie Brothers. That sounds pretty cool to me. In addition to the concert you'll find great restaurants, dance parties, shops and more...all just steps away from Universal Studios. Church Street Station in Downtown Orlando will have a street party that promises a great time as well. With your cover charge you'll not only get into the party but have access to several clubs as well. Happy New Year! |
| Christmas Eve Dinner in Miami |
| Asked by Simone on November 17, 2009 |
| Q: Hi Kanika, I`m from Brazil, and my husband and I will be on vacation in Miami during the holidays...Do you have a suggestion for a great, romantic and fine restaurant - not so expensive - where we can have dinner on december 24th? Thanks. |
|
A: Hi Simone, What a wonderful time to visit Miami! You're going to really love your trip. In South Florida we celebrate the Holidays every year with a White Christmas all our own. It doesn't involve snow...but the beautiful sandy beaches along the shore instead. I personally think the best way to preserve your holiday as a family-focused time, even while on vacation, may be to step away from the hustle and bustle of Ocean Drive for just a few moments with dinner reservations at Barton G. Reknown restauranteur Barton G. Weiss has created a masterpiece of dining experience with his sophisticated restaurant on West Avenue. You'll notice the insightful way he has tied together all of the glory of South Beach past with the relevant style of South Beach present. I'm sure you'll be pleased and count this dinner among your favorite memories of your vacation. !Felies Festas! Kanika |

| Q: When we go out to eat in the evening we would like to see interesting shops and markets at the same time to make more of an evening of it. Which area would be best to rent a villa? Many thanks |
|
A: Dear Val, The options for renting a villa in an area where there are many shops and markets are many. Orlando is an ideal destination that includes a little something for everyone. For example, there are as many adult activities as there are children's entertainment options. You'll like Church Street Station and nearby Mount Dora for casul shopping and sightseeing. Fort Lauderdale Beach is another lovely place to rent a villa. The shopping on Las Olas is divine. Have a great time! |

| After the Disney Marathon - Headed to Venice |
| Asked by Sharalyn on October 29, 2009 |
| Q: I am doing the Disney Marathon in Orlando, Jan 10. I would like to travel from Orlando to Venice, on Jan 11. Are there any suggestions on how to do that...do I need to rent a car for one-way, is there a bus or limo service? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |
|
A: Hi Sharalyn, Congratulations on your fantastic accomplishment of training to run the Disney Marathon. I know a few people who have done it and have only wonderful things to say about the experience. Traveling from Orlando to Venice will give you a nice view of our great state. I recommend renting a car and driving from one city to the other. This will allow you to stop along the way in great cities such as Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. If you have a time constraint and need to get directly to Venice you can take standard bus service that will get you there, however, a car is likely to take about the same amount of time - stops included. Good luck with your marathon. You'll do great! |
| Fun Times in Fort Lauderdale |

| Q: I am considering a vacation to Fort Lauderdale. My travel dates will be the last week in December through January, 2010. I will be traveling by myself. I love reggae, and its culture. Is there somewhere you would suggest or should I visit somewhere else in Florida? A resort would be fine, as long as it is walking distance to shops, clubs, etc. Thank You |
|
A: Hi Patricia, You'll find that in Florida there are lots of influences of island culture. In addition to reggae and Jamaican influences you'll find soca, calypso and all sorts of other sounds that transport you to the paradise of Caribbean culture. Here in Florida we refer to it as Floribbean - a great mix of all things wonderful in our corner of the world. Fort Lauderdale won't disappoint you. You'll find the tropical weather a welcome treat in December. The Hilton on Fort Lauderdale Beach is especially nice and puts you in walking distance to great restaurants and shops. Be sure to travel down to Miami if you can and your island-like escape will be complete. Have a great time! |
| Great Times in Orlando and St. Augustine |
| Asked by Fernando on October 18, 2009 |
| Q: Hello Kanika, My wife and I are planning a trip to Orlando during Christmas. So far I have visited some Disney theme parks and malls, but my wife knows practically none of the shopping alternatives in the area. I wonder if you could suggest some things to do in Orlando apart from the usual tourist attractions. I would also like to know if you recommend visiting St. Augustine for some tourist seeing. Thanks! |
|
A: Hello Fernando, Your choices for travel in Florida are really on target. You and your wife won't be disappointed. Orlando is an area culturally rich in many ways additional to the theme parks for which it is widely known. Plan to spend some time at Church Street Station and be sure to review the events schedule with the city's chamber during your stay. You'll find all kinds of cultural activities around Christmastime. You should also plan to check out Gaylord Palms' ICE event, where tons of ice is brought in to the florida resort to create a winter wonderland like none other. You may also enjoy Lakeridhe Winery in nearby Clermont. A 15 minute drive away from Orlando, this up-close look at winemaking Florida style is quite interesting. You'll have a great time in St. Augustine as well. As the nation's oldest city, it is rich with history and culture. The sightseeing opportunities are endless. You'll see forts and monuments that date back to the days of Spanish exploration of our shores. St. Augustine is also known for its beautiful beaches and great open-air shops, which are particularly nice around the holidays. Have fun!

We want to stay in a villa within 30 minutes of the parks area so we would like to know if there are any good grocery shopping areas where we can buy food. Also I want to take a day trip to Nassau, Bahamas. Do you know any places I can find information or tickets on boats or planes over to Nassau? I also want to hit Key West at least 1 day. Do you think that I'm being reasonable with 7 day vacation. Should I take the kids to Key West to? Are there things for them to do in Key West? Are there any cheap family restaurants within an hour of Florida that might be a must-eat? |
|
A: Whoa, Denise! You are trying to accomplish a lot in seven days. Believe it or not, you can have loads of fun for seven days right in the general Orlando vicinity. Here are my recommendations. Take your time in Orlando. Make sure you enjoy the many fabulous things Orlando as a city has to offer in addition to the area's theme parks. Then head over to Tampa for some fun in Ybor City, a historic district rich in Cuban culture. You can keep heading West for about an hour and you'll hit the Gulf Beaches off St. Petersburg's coast. These beaches are every bit as beautiful as any you'll ever see. This trip will take every bit of seven days. Have a great time!

| Outlet shopping in Orlando and Miami |
| Asked by Maria on October 08, 2009 |
| Q: Hello!! I'm planning a Visit to Miami and Orlando in mid November for some R&R and some shopping. Can you recommned me some outlets in Orlando? Last year we went to Sawgrass Mills in Miami, is there another outlet like this in Miami? Can also you recommend any restaurants in Orlando and Miami? Thanks a lot!! |
|
A: Sounds like you're looking for some serious shopping action. In Orlando you definitely have to check out Orlando Premium Outlets and in Miami go for Prime Outlets in Florida City - a suburb of Miami. You'll find everything you're looking for and more at both of these high-end outlets. And, don't forget about Sawgrass Mills. If you were there last year then you know all about its great offerings. What you may not know is that new stores have been added to the Colonnade Shops at Sawgrass Mills. Designer jeans and men's apparel are the latest additions to this superb shopping experience. Just remember one thing as you get carried away by all the unbelievable bargains you are sure to find...save some buys for the rest of us. Oh, and have fun! |
| Good Times in Groveland |
| Asked by Terry on October 01, 2009 |
| Q: HiI am coming to Florida for months and would like to find all the fun spots in the area. I will be staying in Groveland. I love to play Bingo here at home and I volunteer at a local Senior Center. Are there Sr. centers in the Groveland area? Are there places I can go to meet new people and have fun?Thank you,Terry |
|
A: Good News! Groveland is centrally located. You can get to almost anywhere in the whole state pretty easily. Most notably, you'll be right near Orlando where the fun never seems to end. There is a full day of fun for kids of all ages, always going on in Orlando. You also might want to check out Clermont, which is about 15 miles away from Groveland. There you'll find the Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards which is a great example of Florida's offerings to the wine world. I'm sure you'll find lots of friends in Groveland. It is a lovely community. Wishing you a wonderful time, Kanika |

| Q: Hi Kanika, My husband and I are bringing our two girls to your lovely state in March 2010. We need to go from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale to catch our cruise ship after a week in Orlando. Which is the best way down? My husband and I dont drive. |
|
A: Hi Emma, After a week in Orlando you'll never want to leave! But, luckily, you're headed to beautiful Ft. Lauderdale next, should be super fun. There are a few ways to travel from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale. Try airlines that service both. The flight is about an hour and should be relatively inexpensive. Have a great time. |
| Suggestions for South Florida Fun |
| Asked by Sol on September 24, 2009 |
| Q: Hi! My boyfriend, a couple of married friends and I are planning a 10 day trip to Miami in mid-November. We went there last November, went shopping (mainly in Miami Beach and a whole day in Sawgrass), also went on an air boat ride in the Everglades, visited Naples and West Palm Beach. This year we wanted to do a different thing. I thought we could rent a car and head north to Tampa and/or Disney, south to visit the Keys (I've been there some years ago) or head to Naples and from there visit other beaches or places on the other coast. Any suggestions? Also, last year we went ate at PF Chang's, Lolita, News Cafe, Novecento... We would love to visit other places to have drinks, dine and/or dance. Any tips? |
|
A: Hi! It sounds like you've already had a big dose of some of the great fun Florida has to offer. As you know, there's so much more to do! You could come visit the Sunshine State for many years in a row and always find something new and exciting. Here are a few ideas for fun for you and your friends: While you're in Miami you should definitely make reservations to eat at Joe's Stone Crab. This classic Florida favorite is a must-do special occassion restaurant for every South Florida fun seeker. You should also plan to do some shopping in Bal Harbour at the Bal Harbour Shops. The shopping here is exquisite and full of fun adventure and events. Your thought to drive over to the Gullf Coast to check out the other side of the state is a good one. You'll love watching the sunset from The rooftop of the Hurricane on Pass-A-Grille Beach and Ft. Desoto, just outside of St. Petersburg is a great day trip. Ten days is just enough time to have the time of your life. Have fun! |

A: Hi Raphael, There are so many great places to have fun in Orlando. It sounds like you're looking for a place that will have several opportunities for dining, dancing and other fun activities in close proximity. If you drive down International Drive you'll pass literally hundreds of options for dining ranging in every level of price and entertainment. I have a couple of specific suggestions for you: 1) Try City Walk at Universal Studios. It has great restaurants, dance clubs and is adjacent to Universal Studios Theme Park. 2) Church Street Station in Downtown Orlando is another great district filled with shopping and dining fun. Whatever you decide to do will be a great time. Have fun! |
| Daytona Beach in July |
| Asked by Angela Williams on September 17, 2009 |
| Q: Hello, i am trying to plan well ahead of time for my next family vacation and was wondering if you can give me some insight on visiting Daytona Beach in the month of July 2010 for a week's vacation? Is it pretty well diverse? Is it a good place to visit and do you have any recommendations on a nice, clean place to stay, preferably a condo? Thanks |
|
A: Hi Angela, Daytona Beach is a great place to visit anytime of the year, but particularly in July! The festivities seem to never end and there are plenty of fun activities for your whole family. The best part about Daytona Beach is spending time on the beautiful sandy beaches. But, while you're there you can also check out the Speedway where the famous Daytona 500 car races take place and visit the campus of Bethune Cookman-College. There is lots of diversity, cultural excellence and many wonderful places to stay for both day and extended rates, all along the beach. You'll have a great time! |
| Public Transportation between Clearwater and Orlando? |
| Asked by Emma Porter on September 15, 2009 |
| Q: Hi Kanika, I hope you can help! I'm visting Florida from England in October, I've booked tickets to see the Orlando Magics play and I can't wait! But I'll be staying in Clearwater, and I don't know how to get over to Orlando! I won't be able to drive (I'm 17! My parents will drive me home thankfully!) But I was wondering whether you could help me with getting to the Amway Arena from Clearwater using public transport! Thank you!! |
|
A: Hi Emma, Unfortunately, there's no public transportation system between Clearwater and Orlando. The two cities are about an hour and a half apart from each other. I'm glad to hear your parents can help because the drive is nice and direct and there'll be lots of fun things for them to do in Orlando if they take you to the game. Have a great trip! |
| Pet-Friendly Places in South Florida |
| Asked by Robert on September 12, 2009 |
| Q: Hi, I enjoy taking my dog to Lincoln Road in South Beach, Miami. Where are some other dog-friendly places in South Florida? |
|
A: Hi Robert, My research shows that South Florida is a hub for pet-friendly places - which comes as no surprise about this progressive piece of our great state. Here's a listing of some of the options I came across in my search: Dubliner in Mizner Park, Boca Raton, 433 Plaza Real, Suite 355, allows pooches to come along for the meal. So does the San Fransisco Burrito Co. at 5187 s. University Dr. in Davie. Cafe' Nuvo, 412 Espanola Way and China Grill, 404 Washington Ave., both in Miami Beach, are well-known for the canine commitment. China Grill even had a series of Dogs Gone Wild Parties over the summer. There are a few South Florida Beaches that will be fun places to play for your dog and you. Check out: Canine Beach and Dog Swim at Snyder Park, both in Fort Lauderdale; Hollywood Dog Beach in Hollywood; Jupiter Beach and Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge on Jupiter Island. Wishing you and your doggie a great time! |

Try the Festival Flea Market Mall, located at 2900 West Sample Road, right in Pompano and the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop, located at 3291 West Sunrise Boulevard, in Fort Lauderdale. Depending on your exact location, Fort Lauderdale will only be about 8-10 miles away and well worth the drive. | Asked by Dee on August 17, 2009 |
| Q: I have a large group staying in Miami for 1 night pre-cruise. They are extremely budget concsious but still want some nightlife. Average age is probably 35. What do you think of Coconut Grove? Or..if they stayed at an airport property and I arranged transportation that evening..Where do you suggest? Can you help? Thank you! |
|
A: Hi, With one night in Miami and a little planning, you can't go wrong. You can have a great time on a budget at CocoWalk in Coconut Grove and several spots on South Beach. Look forward to a fabulous dinner and be sure to take advantage of the South Florida flavor that you'll find in everything from the food to the fashions. I suggest Joe's Stone Crab for a true Florida experience. The important thing to remember is to plan ahead and call for reservations so you don't have to stand in any lines once you're there. You should be able to catch a cab from the airport to any destination in Miami. The fare will definitely be fair. Have fun! |

I have never been to the US, but I'm really looking forward to this trip. As a muso myself, I would love to go to some concerts happening around - and not too far from - Bradenton. We don't mind driving an hour and half or so. Looking forward hearing from you.Kind regards,Jana Bougas. |
|
A: Hi Jana, Welcome to the States and warmest welcome to Florida! We're so glad you're here! It's a little hard to make recommendations for a specific show without knowing what genre of music you like best. But, lucky for you, you're coming to a diverse area that's full of many great offerings. For instance, if you're a hard rock fan, you'll be glad to know that Motley Crue is coming to play the Ford Amphitheater in Tampa on Friday, Aug. 28. And, if you're a hip hop head - you'll be super excited to know that on Thursday, Aug. 27, an all-star cast of artists will be performing in a Largo club called Gasoline Alley. Both spots are about an hour away from Bradenton. The best way to get good tickets to great shows here in the States is to go to ticketmaster.com. Have a wonderful trip! |

It's conveniently located between the Tampa Bay Area and Soth Florida so there are literally more options for entertainment than you could handle in a week. I checked out the haps in the Ft. Myers area during the month of October and came across a fun time that you guys should definitely try. The Diva Martini Bar, located inside the Mangrove Cafe on the corner of 5th AVe. and Tamiami Trail in Downtown Naples, is raising the roof every Friday night in October to the sounds of internationally known DJ Mickey Nightrain. You can make reservations to avoid lines and secure a table by calling 239-262-7076. It's just a quick drive from Ft. Myers. Have fun and be safe! |

| Q: Hi Kanika, I'm planning a trip to Florida Oct 1-5th. It's for my birthday. I'm coming with a few girls. Can you point me toward clubs, shopping & sightseeing? We have narrowed down to Orlando & Miami. Which has all that we are looking for! Any suggestion would be great! Thanks, Phyllis. |
|
A: Hi Phyllis, I hope you're ready for some unforgettable fun on your birthday...because if you're coming to Florida, that's exactly what you're going to get! You can't go wrong with Orlando or Miami. Both are great bets for some sure excitement any time of the year. Here's a little inside scoop on both. Orlando is great for shopping, nightlife and some of Florida's signature destinations such as Disney World. Believe it or not, you can never get too old for a birthday at Disney World. Other great spots like Universal City Walk and Church Street Station in Downtown Orlando will provide you with lots of options for clubs and dancing. Finally, Orlando features great condos and townhouses for rent at really reasonable prices. Perfect for a girls' weekend that will give you a lot of luxury for just a little investment. Now, if you're ready to turn up the heat, head on down to Miami. It doesn't get any hotter than Miami, where the sun seems to always shine - even when it's raining. South Beach has a strip, Ocean Drive, that never sleeps. You have to have a bite at DeVito's - a restaurant owned by actor Danny DeVito - or celebrate like a true South Floridian at Joe's Stone Crab. As for nightlife, you literally can walk down Ocean and find great clubs all night long. Happy Birthday, girlie! If I can help with anything else, just holler! |

A: Rachel, I do know of a wonderful cigar shop in Orlando. The Corona Cigar Company is the real deal. If your husband is an aficionado he will be pleasantly surprised by Corona. More than a store, it's an experience. Row after row of cigars, humidors and other accessories line the large store. My husband and I wandered into Corona one night while waiting for a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant. It was unbelievable! | Q: I am trying to plan a vacation(much needed) for myself and my partner. We have reserved a room at the Grand Plaza, but since I've never been there, don't know what it's like, except for what we see online. We want a really nice vacation, and we love the beach, shopping, and want t enjoy some of the nightlife. This will be the first time in many years that we are traveling alone. We would like to try some new things, like snorkeling and parasailing, as well. Any information I can get would be great. |
|
A: Hi, Your travel plans sound super exciting! Believe it or not, there are several resorts throughout the state that have Grand Plaza in their names, so without a little more specificity it's hard to give you the inside scoop on activities you can get into right around your resort. Write back with a little more information on your resort's location and when you're heading our way and my fellow Insiders and I will fill you in on a full scope of possibilities for an unforgettable vacation. Your decision to spend your time away here in the Sunshine State is a great one. I look forward to helping you figure out how to make the best of it. |
