We recently got a whole day of cool weather here in the Sunshine State! It actually felt brisk enough for a sweater or jacket at noon - which almost never happens!
The chilly weather was definitely cool and just the excuse fashionistas across Florida were looking for to bust out their boots. It was great to see so many well-heeled women wearing the signature style of fall and winter. It was like a great reunion of boot-loving girls.
Just about every woman I ran into over the past couple of days was wearing a pair. There was my girl Fran in her smokin' suede beauties, they seemed to not only elevate her height but her go get 'em attitude as well. My sister set it off with a pair of coal-colored ankle boots that stomp out any question of whether these shoes, traditionally reserved for wintry weather, have a place in a Florida girl's closet. Even my friend Marcey, many months pregnant, gracefully defied the mommy-to-be code, making it through the day in a pair of stilettos that showcased her style.
No doubt, there are some cynics who question why we'd rejoice in the right to wear boots in Florida. It's true, tomorrow the weather may flip a switch and bring high temperatures, lots of sunshine, wind and waves. You might catch us laying out on the beach barefoot looking more like a summer vacation post card than a fall Fashionista. But, that's the beauty of being here in the Sunshine State. You get a little bit of everything and it's all good.
While you're in town, be sure to check out Florida's contributions to fall fashion by visiting the local mall. My favorite place to pick out my signature boots of the season is International Plaza in Tampa. With more than 200 specialty shops and halls decked to put even the scroogiest shopper in the spirit, you can't go wrong. Don't leave without checking out Steve Madden, who always keeps it lively, and Poco Pattino, a very cool specialty boutique that includes show-stopping high-steppers for you and your little ones.
I used my Kodak Zi8 to snap this picture of some of my faves from my ever-growing collection of boots. I hope it stays cool for a little while longer so we can keep up the fancy footwork - boots and all. |
