Next weekend, the Everglades will come alive with a cultural explosion of activities unique to Florida. The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum hosts the 12th annual American Indian Arts Celebration in Big Cypress Swamp Nov. 6-8. Prepare for three packed days of up-close access to American Indian celebrations, arts and history, with special focus on Florida’s Seminole tribe. Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki translates to mean where we learn -- and at this festival, exposure and learning about the rich history of Florida's American Indian culture is the order of the day.
An authentic Indian market, Seminole stomp dances, an alligator wrestling show and many other activities fill the festival’s schedule. There’s no wonder this festival is rated as one of the top 20 in the Southeast United States. The picturesque setting of the Everglades, combined with real life history lessons that last a lifetime, combine to deliver a reverent, yet entertaining experience that pays a proper tribute to this important chapter in Florida’s history.
At $9 an adult and $6 for students and seniors, this festival full of family fun is well worth the trip.
