This notice is a little late, but I just found out about this fun night and I can't pass up the chance to share it with you. On Oct. 24, Michael Jackson fans will gather in St. Petersburg to honor the gone-too-soon superstar by seeking a Guiness World Record for the greatest number of people to perform the world-famous "Thriller" dance routine.
For weeks, organizers signed up willing dancers -- amateur to professional -- for the record-seeking feat, cutting off the cast at 400. Set for 5 p.m. at the St. Petersburg Pier in Downtown St. Petersburg, Thrill the World will take place rain or shine and is preceded by a full day of activities that celebrate the ghoulish spirit of Michael's award-winning performance.
Kick off the festivities with a Green Zombie drink from Pier restaurant Cha Cha Coconuts, available all day. Then get into the groove with nearby restaurant Fresco's Blue Howl at the Moon Martini special that starts at 5 p.m. and keep the party going after the performance at Captain Al's, a restaurant hot spot located at the Pier, where a Tribute to Michael Jackson will go from 9 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.
It's been 25 years since the release of the "Thriller" album. With Michael's untimely passing earlier this year, it's time to dust off those white gloves, dig out those glittering socks and moonwalk in the name of the King of Pop. People will be joining you all over the world. Thrill the World is a worldwide attempt at the Guiness World Record and is expected to transcend geographic, language and cultural boundaries, much like the musical icon who first performed the unforgettable, blood-curdling number.
Can you keep up? You'll see me there trying my best. I'm going to bring my new Kodak Zi8 camera and share it all with the world. Look for video and pictures that I'll post right after the performance and try "Thriller" yourself at home. Don't worry if you miss a step. You can always Blame it on the Boogie. |
