In Florida, we don't traditionally have a severe shift in weather to mark the change of the seasons. Here in the Sunshine State, it's completely reasonable to slip on the same shorts in January that you bought back in July and strapless dresses matched with open-toe shoes are a favorite for winter holiday happenings. The liberty of wearing what we want all year long is one of the best parts about being in Florida, but, from a shopper's perspective, it can also lead to a lack of seasonal shopping, if you're not careful.
When you're visiting Florida and looking for a great shopping experience during months where our seasonal weather is not the same as that in your hometown, you have to think out of the box. Turn your usual thoughts on their ears and embrace the opportunities exclusive to Florida fashion.
Here are a few insider tips for how to make shopping in the Sunshine State work for you year round:
1) Layers are lovely! It's true, chances are when you're strolling through one of our state's signature outlet retail centers, you're not going to find any fur or an overabundance of leather - no matter what month we're in. But, the one thing you will always find, whether you're in Orlando's Premium Outlets or The Collonade Shops at Sawgrass Mills, is the most fashionable of everything else. Here in Florida you'll find the absolute best career separates; recreational and resort wear, casual clothes and shoes. Pile up your picks of our bright and beautiful pieces and layer them once you return home for a styling (and warm) wardrobe of options.
2) It's not what you wear, but how you wear it. Conventional wisdom tells us that the color palette of our clothes should change to reflect the seasons. Warm jewel tones are the signature of the fall and winter months and bright, airy pastels mark the celebrations of spring and summer. Floridians have found a way to make every color look great all year long. Carry our inclusive culture back home with you with boldness. Believe me, it's okay to wear that pretty Lilly Pulitzer dress you found on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach to a New Year's Eve soiree - even with the pink hibiscus all over it.
3) Mix to match your mood and the season. Even when the Northern weather moves to an unforgivable chill that dictates what you wear, you don't have to put every piece of Florida fashion away. The sun always shines and cool sunglasses and sweet sweaters are always in style. You can find great signature style in Florida's many boutiques. Areas such as Tampa Bay, St. Augustine, and the Siesta Key/Sarasota/Lido Beach areas are particularly known for their boutique offerings and the timeless, classic style that can be found there year round.
We love visitors to share in the many wonderful experiences Florida has to offer. Be sure to include fashion at the top of your list, no matter what corner of the country you hang your hat. |
