Coming of age in college in Tallahassee in the late '90s meant a few certain things:
1. Krispy Kreme doughnuts were a must any time you saw the Hot, Fresh, Now sign flashing in the window;
2. A fun night of dancing with friends could only be followed with the purchase of one chicken finger box (shared between six starving students) from a little student-run spot called Guthrie's and;
3. For a cover charge of just a few bucks you got to see Creed when it was a post-grunge garage band called Naked Toddler.
Devoted fans of Creed know the band started as the creative expression of four friends who attended Florida State University.
More than 30 million record sales later, the band is still beloved by us Tallahassee Lassies and a bevy of other girls and guys all across the country. A split a few years back surprised many fans and left a void in the industry.
But, tonight, the band breathes life into the West Palm Beach scene with a concert at the Cruzan Amphitheater. With a hot new single "Overcome" climbing up the charts and a new album slated for release in October, Creed fans are sure to be pleased with this sneak preview of new additions to the catalog. Classic favorites like early hits "Torn" and "One" and sing along anthems like "With Arms Wide Open" and "Higher" are sure to be played as well.
The band opened its 19-show tour with two Florida stops: last night's show in Orlando and tonight's in West Palm Beach. My buddy Buck traveled to Orlalndo last night to hear his Central Florida homeboys (Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti hail from Orlando) play. He was super excited. I am super jealous.
But, you shouldn't be. There's still plenty of time for you to grab tickets and go...and, please, sing a song for me. |
