Hey Guys! I found a very cool idea for your next date night. Orlando's Orange County Regional History Center is playing to our collective love of all things vintage with a retro game night that sounds out of this world. It promises to be everything you remember...and more. Remember the coolness of CLUE? Like when you finally figured out that it was Miss Scarlet in the parlor with a candlestick...forget about it! You felt like a genius right? Now, fast forward 25 years. I'm thinking that this time, we'll figure it out every time, exactly right, with a few clues left, to boot. Talk about an ego boost!
And, if CLUE was not your game, then maybe a good match of UNO, Trouble or Candy Land can capture your attention and carry you back to he good old days. No matter how old we get, the idea of sliding down a glistening peppermint stick into a pool of warm chocolate still sounds like fun.
Every classic game from our childhood will be out and ready for play on Friday, Sept. 18. Invite all of the friends you've found again on Facebook, sit down around your favorite board game and remember how it all started. I'm guessing that there will be great revelations. Suddenly, a game of Monopoly will remind you of how your old buddy Tom became the development tycoon that he is and your good friend Linda's expertise with Operation will shed light on the way she sailed through her medical school residency and fellowship training. After all, who we are today is pretty much a compilation of our past experiences. Hopefully, every one has lots of Mattel and Milton Bradley in their backgrounds.
The organizers' promise of nostalgic treats have me hoping for some Pop Rocks and Coke and I have no doubt that Space Invaders, maybe even Frogger, will be rocking on the video screen. (Children of the '80s unite!)
Being raised on Rubik's Cube strategy and Connect Four cooperation has given our generation a pretty good dose of domestic humanity. United by a common bond of board-game brotherhood makes for an overall better world. I hope you're able to make it to Orlando on the 18th to relive the joy with me. We can even kickback into curfew mode for the night. The party lasts until midnight; let's see how long you can hang.
Now, please excuse me. I have to go dig through my closet to find my best girl Barbie and dust off the coolest game of all time: Fashion Plates!
See you there!
