Sure, it’s early to start talking about the Florida Seafood Festival in Apalachicola, but when it comes to the Sunshine State’s oldest maritime event, it’s never too early. Besides, I wanted to be sure that all of our true seafood fans have plenty of time to plan for this wonderful weekend getaway. Held every weekend in November, this year’s festivities are Nov. 6-7 and include everything from the annual Blessing of the Fleet to an oyster-eating and shucking contest.
There’s also a cooking contest, midway rides, a parade and many more festivities filled with fun. The spread of seafood will have your mouth watering from the time you hit the festival's grounds. The shrimp, crab and fresh fish surrounded by all the fixings are alone worth the drive.
But, the showstopper are the world-famous oysters from Apalachicola Bay. The tasty fresh oysters off this classic Florida coast are great every way you eat them and the many talented cooks who call Oyster Town home really know what they’re doing. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and shuck with the best of them during two unforgettable days in Old Florida at its best.
