Grab your prettiest parasol and get ready for Saturday’s Gecko Fest in Gulfport – a cozy little seaside town on Florida’s West Coast. This weekend the Gecko Fest promises to lively up your soul and Labor Day weekend with free festivities and celebrations that celebrate the free spirit of its host town.
If you know anything about Gulfport, then you already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from this festival that makes its way down Beach Boulevard to the beat of this city’s definitely different drummer. Colorful cottages dot the landscape of friendly merchants and neighborhood locals who peddle healthy doses of optimism as easily as their wares. Salty air, sea spray and classic beachfront food makes Downtown Gulfport a great spot any weekend – but during Gecko Fest – forget about it! The fun jumps into hyperdrive.
Street performers, mainstage musicians and tasty treats are the agenda for the occasion and the fun lasts all day, noon-10 p.m. After nine years, I know that’s it’s likely to rain. But rain can’t stop this parade. One of the most fun elements of the Gecko Fest is watching the regulars whip out their umbrellas (specially decorated for the occasion) and continuing the party in rain-ready stride.
It will be great to see you at this family friendly fun fest that celebrates all the best that Florida has to offer. Remember, while the city opens its doors wide this weekend with free admission and parking, you’ll definitely want to bring some cash so you can get in on all the good eats and treats from the festival’s vendors and Downtown Gulfport’s stores.
Visit the official web site for info on where to park, what you’ll see and much more. Look for me. I’ll be the one with the coolest umbrella you’ve ever seen.
