We’re closing in on one of the most important dates on the annual fashion calendar -- Labor Day -- and the ages-old debate continues: Can you wear white in Florida after the universal gateway to fall passes us by?
Well, there is no clear-cut answer -- it's really up to you -- but consider this before you make your decision ...
Since there are so few signals to the shift in seasons in the Sunshine State, why not let your wardrobe serve as a cue that we’re ushering in fabulous Fall days, that celebrate life coming full circle, with vibrant jewel tones and triumphant patterns and prints. Besides, what better reason to shop a bit for new shoes and sweet sweaters than storing our white sandals and linens away in the closet until next May?
Retail outlets throughout the state will be happy to help you reheel and tuck your toes in for the remainder of the year. Check out your local Dillard’s for some really intriguing shoe choices. I was super excited at what I saw last weekend. And, Florida's outlet malls (you'll find outstanding options in Ellenton, Destin, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale) are always a good bet for gearing up for fall fashions.
And if you do choose to pack away your whites -- don’t worry -- there’s always winter white, and as fast as time passes, we’ll be wearing our bright whites again in no time.
But if you’re just not ready to let yours work their way to the back of the closet, then I have three words of advice: DO YOUR THING! After all, here in Florida, way more than any rule, validating hospitality hails as the order of the day and individuality is always encouraged. So, remember, when it comes right down to it, it doesn’t really matter what you’re wearing … as long as you’re wearing it well!
