Ever wonder where cool people go to up their cool factor? You know, where the hottest happenings hatch and the chill spot temp reaches subzero…well, wonder no more. The Studio@620 in St. Petersburg is the Gulf Coast destination for all fun things fab and their constant innovation keeps that the case, in new ways all the time, it seems.
As promised, you can look here for insider tips on affordable ways to keep Florida fun in your life and budget. This week, we’re taking a tour of St. Pete hot spot The Studio@620. Located at, you guessed it, 620 First Ave. S, (I know, even the name is cool…); Studio@620 is full of unbelievable opportunities to explore arts and culture up close.
Through the end of the summer, Mondays are major with the Studio’s Summer Sunset Film Festival. You have two more chances to see the free movies from the top of Push Ultra Lounge, also in downtown St. Petersburg. Mark your calendar for the 8:30 p.m. showings that beautifully set some of American cinema’s most timeless classics under the star-lit sky.
Tonight’s feature, “Vertigo” is bringing with it a nice break from the St. Pete's recent late-evening showers. Next week, catch classic “Wait until Dark”, but not before grabbing a bite to eat at Red Mesa Cantina downstairs. Seriously…some of the best tapas you’ll ever taste!
And, don’t worry; the summer series may be coming to an end, but Studio@620 art director extraordinaire Bob Devin Jones recently shared some inside scoop: A fall series is currently in the works. Stay tuned for details on the lineup.
It will be great to see you at next Monday’s showing of “Wait Until Dark”, but you should also make plans for some other great affordable fun presented by the Studio@620. Plan to join the progressive St. Petersburg arts community at the free Thursday night opening reception of Chromatophore: A Mail Art Exhibit, 6:30-9:30 p.m. This exhibit brings together two obscure elements: Chromatophore (the color changing skin cells in animals like chameleons) and mail art (art that uses the postal system as a genre) in an accessible and enlightening way. You’ll learn a lot and be entertained by featured performer Rebecca Zapen. The exhibit runs Aug. 27-Sept. 5. |
