It's the lore of shopping legends. A fantasy Central Florida fashionistas wait for all year long: The annual St. Petersburg Sunrise Sale is coming up this Saturday -- and it's definitely worth the crawl out of bed.
Believe me, I'm a bed hugger, and there are not too many things that could compel me to turn back the covers before 6 o'clock on a Saturday morning. But, the St. Pete Sunrise Sale -- oh yeah, baby -- I wouldn't miss it for the world. Running into some of your best friends in their most posh pjs always makes the morning feel more like a slumber party than a sale fest and party just might be the perfect word for it all.
Picture it; all of the city's Downtown Business Merchants swing open their doors at 6:43 a.m ... literally at sunrise, to give us an early start on special sales that will last throughout the day. I know what you're thinking... if the sales last all day -- why on Earth would I get up before dawn? The answer is simple: to save some serious dollars. The best finds always go first -- and FAST!
This isn't a sale for the faint of heart. A well-thought-out plan before you purchase is a big help that can make a huge difference. Specifically, prepare to come face-to-face with luxury items that you may never dream of buying at regular price, marked down to unbelievable lows. That purse you've been eyeing forever will suddenly be within reach; those Prada sunglasses in that funky color won't feel as frivolous. You may be able to actually imagine wearing the ruby ring you pass every day in the Bruce Watters window on your lunch break. But -- please, don't buy it all. Save some steals for me!
On Saturday morning all throughout downtown St. Pete, yellow flags and balloons will be our signal to each patron's participation. And from the moment you step inside your first store, you'll see what I mean.
Rock bottom prices on everything from designer evening gowns and jewelry fit for the red carpet to fine linens that feature thread counts so high they call for Roman Numeral notation will be red-lined at look-again, "that can't be true" prices.
This is the real deal: trunk shows, specialized items such as stationery, top-line interior decor and the list goes on. Most merchants even feature pastries and coffee -- a rightful reward for the serious shoppers' early morning commitment. I am so excited about this year's sunrise sale (I have the perfect pair of pajamas just waiting to be worn). It's a great way to get a jump start on both your day and beating the recession.
