I recently found myself killing time waiting for a flight at Tampa International Airport (TIA). The wait gave me time to pause and take in my surroundings and the shopper in me was very pleasantly surprised.
I've always thought Tampa Airport was ace -- a secret weapon of superiority in the Sunshine State's arsenal of reasons everyone who visits us never wants to leave. Its fast flights, friendly service and easy-to-navigate terminal system keeps it tops on my list of places to catch a plane. And, now, I've added another reason to love TIA to my list: great shopping!
I'm not talking about "kill time by buying a magazine and cup of Starbucks" shopping. No, TIA has some serious retail rallying going on in its Galleria area in the Landside Building. Full-service restaurants like Carrabba's Italian Grill and TGIFriday's fill your belly in a substantive way that won't have you regretting your junk food binge. And, real-deal retail outlets like United Colors of Benetton, Brookstone and Wilson's Leather offer great deals on quality goods that you might find yourself shopping for at anytime -- not only when you're stuck in the airport.
With nearly 40 stores in the Landside Building alone, Tampa International Airport is not only a great precursor to the fabulous shopping you'll find throughout your visit to Florida. More and more, it is becoming a great shopping destination in its own right. |
