13th Annual Summer Shorts Festival – Miami
May 11, 2008
“America’s Short Play Festival” has just gotten more festive than ever. City Theatre proudly announces expanded programming for its 13th Annual Summer Shorts Festival. The lauded annual event is now offering three distinct performance series under the Summer Shorts umbrella: Signature Shorts, the signature series of Programs A & B that put City Theatre’s “shorts” on the map; Shorts 4 Kids, a fast and furiously fun festival of “short” plays designed expressly for families; and Undershorts, a late-night series of provocative, political and hilarious plays that are cutting edge and current.

City Theatre’s trio of short play series will perform at and in association with the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami from May 29 – June 22, 2008 followed by a run of Signature Shorts and Shorts 4 Kids at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale from June 26 – 29, 2008.

The Carbonell Award-winning festival has become a nationally recognized event. In his first season as City Theatre Artistic Director, Stuart Meltzer explains, “City Theatre has been built upon a collaborative base – bringing the best artists together with the nation’s hottest new plays. At the helm of my first Summer Shorts Festival, I have built upon this foundation by commissioning a wealth of new plays for Shorts 4 Kids and adding a second acting and directing ensemble to mount both Shorts 4 Kids and Undershorts. Altogether, Summer Shorts is going to be bursting at the seams with creative energy.”
City Theatre’s acting ensemble for Signature Shorts includes Antonio Amadeo, Nick Duckhardt, Lindsey Forgey, Elena Maria Garcia, Terry Hardcastle, Kim Ostrenko, Paul Tei, Stephen Trovillion and Laura Turnball. The directing ensemble includes: Joe Adler, Rafael de Acha, Margaret Ledford, Kim St. Leon, Amy London, Stuart Meltzer, Michael Montel and Stephanie Norman.
