A girl’s weekend getaway in Amelia Island would not be complete without a good dose of shopping! Needless to say, my friends Kim and Kelly and I took this matter seriously since I planned to write about it on my blog.
Being a history buff meant that there was no way we were going to miss the Fernandina Beach’s Historic District. Once a vibrant, Victorian seaport village, the charming downtown (thankfully) escaped the mass commercialization of the 20th century and now boasts a beautiful 50-block historic district with many original structures dating back to the late 19th century, including many Victorian-style mansions and Victorian cottages.
We took a stroll through the heart of Amelia Island's shopping district, historic Centre Street, and looked at books at The Sailor's Wife Book Exchange, beautiful jewelry at Jeff Steel Jewelers, and gifts from The Ship's Lantern, Pineapple Patch and Twisted Sisters.
Our shopping expedition continued at Amelia Island Plantation, our home base for the weekend. I was surprised at how many shops we discovered. Here are some that you should visit, too:
Bark Avenue Pet Boutique – An upscale pet boutique that offers everything you need to spoil your precious pet, including collars, leads, harnesses, apparel, feeding dishes, holistic food and treats, toys, carrying bags, spa products and gifts for pet lovers.
Harrison’s Mercantile – It features the newest trends in fashion: casual wear and accessories for men and women. LACOSTE, Brighton, Tribal, Molly B. and Tommy Bahama are just a few of the featured lines.
Monkey Barrel – Upscale children’s clothing and toys for infants through pre-teens with popular brands, such as Florence Eiseman, LeTop, Baby Lu Lu, Thomas the Tank Engine and Papo.
Resort to Home – A unique home furnishings and accessories store that offers everything from Two’s Company and Authentic Models, to rugs, lamps, decorative garden items and ceramics.
Chico’s – A specialty retailer of women’s apparel and accessories from exclusive, private label designs; includes the most amazing personal service.
Marché Burette – A gourmet food market and deli that offers freshly cut meats; fruits and vegetables; a large selection of wines and spirits; and gourmet cookware, dinnerware and wine accessories. Located within this market is Cooper’s, which features a selection of homemade gelato, ice cream and mouth watering desserts. |
