The Oldest Lounge in the Oldest City in the United States - Tradewinds Tropical Lounge
February 26, 2009

Hola! A friend of mine is visiting St. Augustine this week. This city is one of my favorite places in Florida.  My recent trip there a few months ago was exquisite and memorable ... good times!

St. Augustine happens to be the oldest (continually occupied) city in the United States, which means it is full of history, drama, passion and culture. Ponce de Leon, the Spanish conquistador, was the first explorer to set foot on shore in the mid-1500s. He actually landed in St. Augustine by mistake. He was trying to find a shorter route (than the one normally traveled) from Spain to Asia. So, I thank him for this wonderful discovery!

Anyway, the reason for this blog is to recommend a great place to have an entertaining evening in St. Augustine. I told my friend, Wickedly Playful 1R, if she wanted to see how the locals had fun, she had to head to the Tradewinds Lounge on Charlotte Street.

This place is an institution. It goes back approximately 35 years, and it is known for having the best LIVE and local musical acts in Northern Florida. I happened to have had the pleasure of singing and dancing to the Spanky Band (you have to that name). This group had the entire place jammin' to their tunes!  We had so much fun that we stayed there until the lights came on and the doors were shut behind us.

The place itself is kind of a dive - BUT - I mean it with only LOVE!  Being a dive is part of its personality and unique character ... Every type of person there - bikers, surfers, loners, chic girls, business men, artists - become part of the scenery. In unison they all sing and dance to the live music of the evening.  It's like cultural differences melt away, as soon as you step inside. It's like one big happy family! Good times are sure to be had there.

If you happen to find yourself around the St. Augustine area, you need to go experience Tradewinds Lounge for yourself and get ready for a wonderfully delicious fun night!

The Spanky Band will be at Tradewinds Lounge on the following dates: March 20-21 and April 17-18.  If you don't get to see them, TRUST ME, there will be other bands which will be just as great as they are ...

Have fun!  Live Life Large.  Ciao!
