With this crazy weather we've been having, the manatees have been seeking refuge from the cold in the warm waters of Florida's springs. And in Crystal River, there were more than 100 manatees in Three Sisters Springs and the nearby designated sanctuary!
Since it's starting to warm back up, they are moving out of the springs and heading out to feed. During the time that they were in the springs, the volunteers from Manatee Watch were out making sure that folks paid attention to the rules, suggesting that people should not enter the springs. It was quite a sight, and hopefully the manatees endured the cold spell without too much trouble. Here's a video of the sanctuary and a shot from Three Sisters.
