Approaching the Tampa International Airport by air is always a pretty sight -- the city positively sparkles with water views every which way you look. And often on approach, I've been able to spot the glittering exterior of the venerable Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay out the airplane window.
This luxury property located on a wildlife preserve is one of the closest hotels to the airport (just a five minute drive -- and downtown is very close, too). So I was amazed by how quiet it is inside the rooms. And the natural surrounds just out the hotel's doors give staying here a 'real Florida' slant, too, while keeping luxe amenities like duvet-clad beds and granite bathrooms squarely in the equation.
The hotel fronts a maze of mangroves fringing the bay. I started my morning with a stroll along the boardwalk while dodging tiny lizards and watching ibises and herons stalk the shallows. My suite had expansive views of the bay. At sunset, it was a surreal experience to sit in the comfort of my room while watching scores of jumping fish paint a palette of ripples on the water's surface below. I fixed myself a cup of coffee with the machine in my kitchenette and settled back onto the couch in the lounge area of my suite to soak up the spectacle. Now that's a great mix of nature and luxury comfort if I do say so myself!
Book now and take advantage of the hotel's Stay More Save More promotion -- save 20 percent on stays of two nights, 30 percent on three nights and 40 percent on stays of four nights.
And here are a few other reasons to love the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay right now:
- Holiday rates start at $99 per night.
- Weekend brunch at the hotel's waterfront Oystercatchers Restaurant is a quintessential Bay-area experience, with seafood, pastries and carving stations galore.
- Armani's restaurant, on the 14th floor of the hotel, has incredible Italian food and some of the city's best views. You can read about a fun girls' night I recently spent at Armani's by clicking here. The restaurant's antipasto bar is the stuff of cheese and charcuterie dreams!
- Complimentary shuttle to the airport, International Plaza.
- Tennis courts and rackets are free for guest use.
