A few weeks ago, I spent a lovely couple of days at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Naples. It's the only all-suite property located directly on the beach in Naples, and what a lovely beach it is! In the mornings, I saw pods of dolphins. And during one early walk, I was the only person on the beach and was able to take some photos of wading birds doing some early-bird fishing.
I stayed in one of the hotel's recently renovated tower suites (rooms are very contemporary, with a soothing green and white color scheme), and enjoyed having a full-size fridge and freezer at my disposal so I could whip up microwave meals to enjoy on my balcony (there's no stove or oven in the suites, but it's amazing what you can do with a microwave!).
There was a large living area in my suite, too, and other amenities included two TVs and an iPod docking station. The hotel has a restaurant as well, in case you're not into cooking in.
While the Edgewater Beach Hotel is in the Hilton family (a recent development), it retains a real boutique feel that I loved. At reception, I noticed guests from the Midwest being welcomed back for a return visit, and I got the feeling this is a place people come back to year after year.
My favorite things about staying here? Sitting on my balcony (all suites have balconies) and watching the sunset. Going for a run north along the quiet road, past incredible oceanfront estates. And stopping by the Naples Pier in the evenings to watch fishermen reel in their catches.
One thing to note -- not all of the hotel's suites have been renovated. Those directly on the beach are more tropical-style than contemporary (the views in the wings that jut out onto the beach, however, are even better than in the tower, with uninterrupted ocean vistas).
Fall rates start from $179 per night.
