| Super Bowl XLII will be played in Tampa on February 1, 2009. There are many activities leading up to the big game even if you are unable to score some tickets. Playing in celebrity golf tournaments enables you to rub elbows with some stars while benefiting worthwhile charities. These types of events are usually held on premier courses, and this one is no exception.
JIM MCMAHON BRINGS CELEBRITY GOLF TO LAKEWOOD RANCH
Former NFL All-Pro Quarterback and two-time Super Bowl Champion Jim McMahon is hosting a celebrity charity golf event on January 29 and 30, 2009. This two-day extravaganza will take place at spectacular Lakewood Ranch just outside Sarasota, Florida. It begins with an evening under the stars at The Lake Club Clubhouse, followed by a star- studded day of golf and camaraderie at The Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. They will use both the King’s Dunes and Cypress Links courses.
Jim has invited 36 of his closest celebrity friends from across the country to participate in this gala event. While preferring to withhold the list until commitments are confirmed, Jim happily observes that, “The list of celebrities who have already indicated their acceptance for the event at Lakewood Ranch is phenomenal and getting stronger. I spend nearly 200 days a year helping and donating my time for charity events across the country. My friends are now coming out in full force to help me make this one of the best events of this kind.”
"I am thrilled to host such an exciting event. I want to thank the awesome people at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, its owners, staff, and the residents of this amazing community. Their willingness to offer support to our charity golf event has been incredible, and we will have fun while we raise awareness and recognition for three great causes." said McMahon.
Joining Jim on Monday were Gold and Silver Medal Swimmer Ed Moses (2000 Olympics) and former Major League Baseball pitcher, Shane Rawley. Over his 12 year career, Shane compiled 111 victories and 40 saves. Shane is the owner of Shaner’s Pizza, a restaurant in Sarasota. Both expressed strong support for the event and a commitment to play in the tournament.
The charities benefitting are: Wounded Warrior Project, the Lynda McMahon Ferguson Memorial Foundation for Literacy, and the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund. Jim has been actively involved with the Wounded Warrior Project and has visited our troops in Iraq.
"I have asked my friends from the Wounded Warriors to be an active part and they will be here. In my mind, these men and women are the real heroes and celebrities of the event. Meeting them and hearing their stories is inspirational, and will make you more than proud of our great warriors who have given so much."
The Lynda McMahon Ferguson Memorial Foundation was created following the untimely death of his sister. In appreciation to Lakewood Ranch, the title sponsor for this event, a portion of proceeds will be donated to the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund.
