Naples is Florida's former sleepy fishing village that is the states southernmost community on the west coast mainland. It is no longer a sleepy little town, but it does have some old-time charm left away from the urban sprawl around I-75.
The Naples Beach Resort origin dates back to the 1800s when the Naples Hotel was built on the spot where today's modern resort is located. The land is right on the sandy white beaches of the Gulf of Mexico with the golf course situated a mere walk across the street.
The golf course was the first 18-hole course constructed in Naples and has hosted many of the games past champions. When I worked at Cypress Lake Country Club in Fort Myers, I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with Patty Berg who was a member. She spoke highly of some of the matches she had with Gene Sarazen and others at the resorts golf course.
The course has had a few facelifts since then most notably by Ron Garl in 1998. It is a fun and challenging design that has hosted the South Florida Open for decades.
The resort is offering a Summer Value package of $149pp per night. This includes your room, free greens fees, free tennis, free beach chairs and free access to the Fitness center. These prices are significantly lower than the in-season winter rates and really should be given a chance. |
