Golfweek magazine has ranked Florida courses in their “Best Courses You Can Play” list for 2009. We have a very rich accumulation of fantastic tracks in the state. A few of the layouts making Florida’s Top Ten are the famous TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium course (where they hold THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach), and World Woods (Pine Barrens) in Brooksville, ranked No. 1 and 2 respectively. The wonderful Bay Hill Club in Orlando comes in at No. 4 and World Woods (Rolling Oaks) is No. 6. Southern Dunes in Haines City and Camp Creek near Panama City are ranked No. 8 and 10.
There are so many great tracks available for public play the list could go on to rank a Top 100, but I’ll only list a few more. Try out the Innisbrook Copperhead course (Palm Harbor) - No. 17, PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens - No. 18, and the Burnt Pine course at Sandestin (Destin) in northwest Florida, ranked No. 20. The Ocean Course at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club is No. 22, which offers a chance to experience a historic links layout.
You should make plans to visit as many of these terrific courses as you can in your upcoming golf vacations to fully experience the variety of golf to be played here in Florida. |
