| PGA National, located in Palm Beach Gardens, already has one of the top courses in Florida with its Champion Course, home to the Honda Classic on the PGA Tour. It has also been the venue for events such as the PGA Championship, Ryder Cup, Grand Slam and numerous Senior PGA Championships.
This track is the third toughest on the PGA Tour and its #15 Par 3 is ranked the most difficult par three in Florida. To make it even more of a test for all golfers, PGA National has undertaken an enhancement of redesigning and expanding the bunkers and changing some fairways.
I’ve played there recently and that layout is plenty tough. The new changes will certainly make this course a strong examination for the PGA Tour players. The Nicklaus Design team and Superior Golf Concepts are overseeing these tweaks to beef up the course in time for the Honda Classic.
Opened in 1981, the PGA National Resort & Spa boasts a 339 room resort, 5 courses with 90 holes of golf, and a 42,000 square foot spa. They also have a great caddie program. During my visit I was lucky enough to have Jerry Higginbotham, Mark O’Meara’s caddie during his win at The Masters. If you haven’t used a caddie in awhile, treat yourself to a real boost to your game.
Also, PGA National Resort will be offering a special selection of golf packages that include “stay and play” deals to take on the Haig, Squire, General, Estate or Champion course. The prices vary according to the time of year and the tracks you choose to play. You may contact them at 800-633-9150 or see their web site at www.pgaresort.com to plan your trip. |
