| Arnold Palmer, the King of Golf, is to be honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and be given their Lifetime Achievement Award. This will take place at the Walt Disney World Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, FL.
Mr. Palmer is already a charter member of the World Golf Hall of Fame located in St. Augustine, FL. He has 92 tournament wins including a US Open, two British Opens and four Masters championships. In 2004 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush, and in 1960 he was selected as the Hickok Professional Athlete of the Year and Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year.
Arnold has done a huge amount of fund raising for charities. The Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women in Orlando was named in his honor. The PGA Tour event held at his Bay Hill Club, also in Orlando, each of the last 30 years has likewise raised millions to help those in need.
Mr. Palmer has lent his name to the Palmer Cup which is the top event run by the GCAA. Every year, the Palmer Cup pits the best college players in the United States against those of Europe to battle for the honor of winning the Cup. Palmer’s name is also attached to the Arnold Palmer Award that is given to the national championship medalist in the NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA. His influence on collegiate golf has been so profound over the years that the GCAA is pleased to induct Arnold Palmer into their own GCAA Hall of Fame and he becomes only the third non-coach to achieve this honor. |
