Build it and they WILL come: A Ride to Remember
July 28, 2008
Universal Orlando Resort recently built the new Simpsons Ride and more than a million riders have entered the thrill ride already, which was designed to duplicate the Simpsons home-viewing experience – at high speeds.

I brought my trustworthy test riders (husband and two sons) with me last week to check out what the buzz is really about. And, all I can say is, “Hold onto your hats!” The ride is fantastic.

The Simpsons Ride is an unexpected mix of animation and simulation. A sign as you board the attraction says, “More Fun Than You’ll Have Sitting At Home.”  The show’s trademark humor is everywhere you turn.  It’s as if you are stepping into the television to join the colorful set. Talk about escape from reality.

All rides should take a cue from The Simpsons. Television monitors entertain guests waiting in line.
Wouldn’t this be a great idea for every ride at every theme park? No one would ever hear kids whining, “How much longer?”
(The wait actually wasn’t bad anyway because we had our Hard Rock Hotel room keys, which serve as Universal Express ride access for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. You can also purchase a Universal Express pass, which I recommend, especially when traveling with kids.)

Universal Orlando Resort is a great summer getaway. We like to make it an annual tradition with our friends and their three kids. Since we are all Florida residents, we get to benefit from the value-driven ticket offers and lower hotel rates (up to 30 percent off for some of the Loews hotels on-site if you book online).

With five kids in tow, we sure felt like we were a comic-book sitcom ourselves…

Come back to read my next blog, which will feature some great inside tips on how to solve common dilemmas when the kids start to whine!
