The Wonderful World of Wonderworks
February 13, 2008
Now that my kids are at ages (6 and 9) where they can stay up past 8 p.m. without ruining our entire week, we are starting to take them out for some nightlife while on vacation.

Both Jack and Brandon are science junkies (what kid isn’t?) and enjoy a good mind-blowing magic show. When I read about Wonderworks and saw the upside-down building on Orlando's International Drive, I decided to take the family to this incredible “amusement park for the mind.”

I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a family night out. “The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show” at Wonderworks allowed us to interact with the comedian and become part of the show. The boys were fascinated by fast-moving card tricks and even got to see their dad dressed up as a Cher doll.  Now, that’s comedy!

We arrived for the 6:00 p.m. show, which lasted until around 8:00 p.m. Dinner of unlimited pizza, salad, popcorn and drinks was served during the show, which kept us hysterically laughing the entire time. The performer's comedic timing and phenomenal magic was so entertaining that we didn't have to ask the kids to sit still once during dinner!  The Wonderworks magician made small tables rise in the air and pulled $100 bills from lemons.

Our post-show journey through the adjacent museum began in an inversion tunnel, where we appeared to be spinning through a dark tunnel of lights. The kids were amazed at the hands-on exhibits, where they could blow giant bubbles, lay on a Bed of Nails (1,500 of them, to be exact), try their hand at pitching against major league players in “Velocity Ball” and be shaken by a 5.3 Earthquake Simulator.

We bought a few tricks to take home for souvenirs. How could I say no to a “Shocking Pen” and some "Trick Soap"?

Boys will be boys!
