What kid doesn't love a fast-paced new ride? For my boys, the scarier and wilder the attraction is, the better. As the Family Travel Expert, I often get a sneak peek into the latest and greatest in theme park adventures; I am going to share the scoop with you on a virtual tour. Here are a few “must-see” attractions to add to your itineraries for an Orlando vacation this spring.
First, click the link below for an inside look at Universal's newest ride, “Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride…Starring You!” which opened this month at Universal Studios Florida. My kids viewed the following preview and say they’re "definitely in" for this one! Click on the link to see what it is all about.
Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride...Starring You
The new attraction features the first-ever use by a theme park of a high-tech virtual imagery technology called “Musion” and a special appearance by Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson. For those wondering, “Musion” technology is a unique high-definition video projection system that transforms two-dimensional images into what seem to be live three-dimensional images.
Disaster! replaces Earthquake, combining the most dramatic elements of Earthquake with an all-new storyline and interactive elements
Guests are filmed as extras for different elements of Disaster Studios’ newest blockbuster film, “Mutha Nature.” In the end of the 15-minute attraction, guests are able to see the results of their work in a tongue-in-cheek trailer for the film, starring Johnson.
We are adding this ride to our wish list, along with a much-anticipated The Simpsons ride, which debuts this spring at Universal Orlando Resort. FOX’s blockbuster hit series, The Simpsons, will come to life as Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson – stars of TV’s longest running series – ride along with guests.
"The ride is designed to duplicate the Simpsons home-viewing experience, only at high speed and with lots of screaming," stated The Simpsons Creator and Executive Producer Matt Groening.
SeaWorld Orlando plans to unveil a brand new water park, Aquatica, in March, where guests can plunge down a 300-foot-long tube through a lagoon filled with Commerson's dolphins. Also be on the look-out for more information on the addition of Jungala, the most ambitious wildlife-themed interactive attraction in the history of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.
New shows are also debuting at the renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney-MGM Studios). The park is celebrating with Toy Story Mania!, a 3-D ride; "Block Party Bash," an interactive Disney parade; and "Playhouse Disney-Live on Stage!”
I know both the kids and the "kids-at-heart" in my family will be headed to Orlando this spring. We'll be sure to fill you in on all of the fun new attractions.
