Sarasota's Mote Marine Laboratory has conducted ground-breaking research when it comes to snook, one of Florida's most popular gamefish.
Anglers can get a chance Oct. 16-17 to do their share for science by signing up for the Laboratory's Snook Research Tournament, part of the William R. Mote Memorial Invitational Snook Shindig. This catch-and-release tournament targets tagged snook that have been raised and released by scientists in Mote's hatchery program.
Participants will not only have a great day fishing the waters of Sarasota Bay, but they will also be gathering valuable information to help with future fish hatchery initiatives. The tournament kicks off on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. with a mandatory captains' meeting. Lines go in the water at 7:30 p.m. and anglers can fish until noon on Oct. 17.
