Venice Shark's Tooth Festival This Weekend!
April 08, 2008
OK all you shark lovers out there--this is your weekend! To celebrate the shark's tooth and all things sharky, head over to Venice, Florida on the Gulf coast, just south of Sarasota, for their annual Shark's Tooth Festival.

Venice is known as the shark's tooth capital of the world because of large fossil deposits just offshore. The black and brown fossilized sharks teeth (along with other fossils) are constantly washing up onto the beach, to the delight of children and grown-ups that come here for just such treasures.

What will you find at the Shark's Tooth Festival?
  • Fossil collectors displaying and selling shark's teeth and other fossils.
  • More than 100 artists from around Florida displaying and selling their work.
  • Food vendors selling everything from BBQ to seafood.
  • Live entertainment on stage.
  • Children's events like the Shark Tooth Scramble and Mote Marine Lab's hands-on exhibit.

When is the Shark's Tooth Festival?
  • Friday, April 11, 2008 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 12, 2008 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 13, 2008 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where is the Shark's Tooth Festival?

In Venice, Florida at the Airport Festival Grounds on Airport Avenue. (Just a short distance from the beaches).

For more info, directions, vendor registration, and contact information, visit the Venice Shark's Tooth Festival website.

See you at the Shark's Tooth Festival!

The soft, dark-sand beaches of Venice, FL yield fossilized sharks teeth to anyone who spends a few minutes sifting through the sand.
