Wow! What a great new VISIT FLORIDA video on the Edison & Ford Winter Estate  - even though I was there, and part of it, the final film is amazing. This is a fun video to watch. Thomas Edison came to Florida in the winter time. When he bought land along the river and planned to build a home, Edison offered electricity -- then a new thing -- to the City of Fort Myers. But they said, no thank you, it might keep the cows awake! Fort Myers and nearby Punta Rassa were then busy as cattle towns - a destination for cowboys who drove cattle across the state to load on ships bound for Cuba.

Yes, Edison did put electricity in his home.
