After you jog the Turkey Trot, eat the turkey dinner and enjoy the turkey leftovers, then what? Here is a plan that could become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition - head to Gainesville Saturday where you and your family can experience living history.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Gainesville's Morningside Nature Center Living History Farm has their Cane Boil and Longleaf Pine Youth Fiddle & Open-String Band Contest.
Costumed living history interpreters will press sugar cane, make syrup and you can sample syrup along with homemade biscuits cooked on a woodstove. This is life as it was in Florida in the 1870s - a real step back in time. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children ages 3-12 and free for children under 3 years of age. The farm is located at 3540 East University Ave., Gainesville.
Are you into making music? Fiddlers are invited to be part of the Youth Fiddle and Open String-Band Contest. Contest rules and registration forms available online. No entry fees and no fees for parents and accompanists.
