It was so much fun last year they're doing it again this year. The second annual Chihuahua Race takes place Saturday, May 3, 2008 in the yard of the Old School Square, downtown Delray Beach. Space is limited to the first 75 dogs registered on a first-come, first-served basis. To pre-register, download an application at www.downtowndelraybeach.com or www.animalrescueforce.org
The pre-registration fee is $10. If space is still available on race day, the fee is $15. Each registered dog entitles the owner into the Cinco de Mayo Festival for free (admission to the Festival is $10 for adults, children under five are free).
Judges will award prizes to first, second and third place winners in the Chihuahua Race. Can you say dog biscuits? The owner gets a trophy. Along with the race, the Animal Rescue Force will have their Pet Adoption Shuttle on site from 1-4 p.m. There will be lots of cats and dogs in need of good homes.
Even if you want to leave your chihuahua at home, bring your camera. This is too much fun. There will be a series of elimination races with five chihuahuas racing at one time. The race is a featured event in the annual Cinco de Mayo Festival .
The Old School Square is the place for the Cinco de Mayo Festival with food, traditional costumes, a marketplace, games, pinatas, entertainment, kid’s activities and dancing, plus, if you are up for it, the 1st annual hot pepper eating contest, all presented by Hispano-Latino Cultural Alliance.
