Remember the grade school rhyme about Columbus? "In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue."
And his ships, I'm sure you remember this too, were the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria.
You can experience history and come aboard the Nina & Pinta, now docked in the St. Augustine City Marina through Monday, May 18. These are replicas but perfectly authentic - the Nina was built by hand, as was the original.
Both ships are open for self-guided walking tours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children.
St. Augustine City Marina is at 111 Avenida Menendez, at the foot of King Street in downtown historic St. Augustine. See the Nina & Pinta then walk up to the Castillo de San Marcos, the only intact 17th-century masonry fort in the United States.
Florida has deep Spanish roots. On Tuesday, May 12, VISIT FLORIDA launched Viva Florida, a celebration of our Spanish history including the 1559 founding of Pensacola and the 1565 beginning of St. Augustine. Pasatelo bien! |
