Big Cypress Shootout Reenacts Seminole War
February 24, 2009
One of Florida's most popular history reenactments is coming up this weekend. On Friday, Feb. 27, continuing through Sunday, March 1, the Big Cypress Shootout takes place at Billie Swamp Safari.

Billie Swamp Safari is located between Fort Lauderdale and Naples on the Big Cypress Reservation, just north of Interstate 75 (Alligator Alley), Exit 49. Admission to the Shootout is $7 for adults, $5 for children, cash only.

Presented by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the battle reenactments happen at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. But all three days have a lot to offer, including music by Okefenokee Joe, Benjamin Dehart and Cowbone; Seminole food; and many artisans who will be demonstrating and selling their wares.

You can wander through soldier and Seminole camps, talk to warriors in period costumes and watch tomahawk throws and archery competitions.
