Forget chocolate and peanut butter. To me, it’s obvious that food and art are two great tastes that taste great together. And if you head to The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville (MOCA) on Friday, May 16 from 8 p.m. til midnight, to celebrate 5 years Downtown, you’ll certainly believe it, too.
This eclectic birthday bash, called MOCA Takes the Cake, hosted by the MOCA Art Council (MAC), will feature hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and desserts, as well as a competition featuring North Florida’s most creative bakers. That means you’ll be entertained by a hands-on cake-sculpting contest, pitting Jacksonville’s reknowned pastry chefs against each other, right in the museum itself. Participants include Cakes by Patrice Drinkard; Choux Designer Cakes and Pastries; Cinotti’s Bakery; Edgewood Bakery; Etiquette of Chocolate; Kakes by Katie; Sheila’s Cakes & Specialty Treats; Stover’s Custom Cakes; Tasteful Creations; The Cake Shop of San Jose; and The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. Awards include Most Outrageous, Most Artistic and Most Contemporary Sculptured Cake. Culinary arts, indeed!
In addition to the sweets and treats at the museum, which will be closed to the general public for the party, VIP Birthday Pass guests will be able to dine on a special prix fixe menu at some of the region’s best eateries from 6 – 8 p.m. prior to MOCA’s birthday celebration!
