One of my favorite books from childhood was Maurice Sendak's classic "Where the Wild Things Are." Something about the illustrations of the dense forest and mystical creatures kept me fascinated for hours. Remembering this book has gotten me excited about a wildlife exhibition currently taking place at the Southwest Florida Museum of History in Fort Myers.
The exhibition entitled, "Art History of SWF Wildlife: Fishing for Art" will run from Dec. 5 through Jan. 3. Educating visitors and residents about the delicate ecosystem that exists in Florida was the main goal of founding artists Joel Loeper and David Hammel. The exciting monthlong showcase consists of "pottery, paintings, wood-carving reliefs, sculptures and ceramic bowls -- all featuring the wildlife of Southwest Florida including manatees, fish, alligators, sea turtles, frogs and anhinga."
Admission ranges from $5.00 for children to $9.50 for adults. For more information about the exhibition visit the museum's website at www.swflmuseumofhistory.com or call 239-321-7430. |
