Care to be transported to the days of Studio 54 and the Pop Art movement? Or would you prefer a temporary escape to the breathtaking lands of Brazil? Residents and visitors to Palm Beach County are in luck this week as Pop Art and Brazilian culture take center stage at the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
Any photography junkie can assuredly note that the Pop Art movement pioneered by quirky personalities like Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist and Robert Indiana heavily influenced the future of the medium.
From now until September 7th, Boca residents and visitors can get a strong dose of pop culture during their usual museum rounds at the exhibition entitled, “I Shot Warhol, Wesselmann, Lichtenstein, Rosenquist, and Indiana.” The colorful display of over 60 images of the great American artists at the pinnacle of their career success were all taken by renowned photographers Bob Adelman and William John Kennedy.
And for those who fancy a taste of Brazilian Carnival, be sure not to miss the screening of the critically acclaimed film “Black Orpheus.” Featured in the museums’ “Fifth Annual Films for a Summer Afternoon” lineup, this rendition of the classic Greek take of the tumultuous love story between Orpheus & Eurydice has been set to the colorful and feverish carnival in Rio de Janiero. The film, directed by French icon Marcel Camus, will screen today and Friday, July 5th at 2pm.
You’ll be dancing in your seat in no time flat.
