| Looking for last-minute cultural plans this Saturday? Here’re two ideas that celebrate ethnicity:
1. Hit up the The Wind Shifts: New Latino Poetry ON TOUR at the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach. This fabulous poetry reading, highlighting just some of the Latino poems collected in this groundbreaking volume, edited by Francisco Aragon, starts at 11 a.m. tomorrow. To read all about it, check out this wonderful piece by my friend Emma Trelles, arts writer for the Sun-Sentinel: www.sun-sentinel.com/features/arts
2. Attend the Lee County Black History Society Inc.’s 6th annual Dinner Banquet at the Shell Factory in North Fort Myers. This year’s theme is Carter G. Woodson & the Origins of Multiculturalism. Woodson is known as the father of Black History and is the founder of Black History Month. The evening’s speaker will be Reverend Eddie Lake, senior pastor of Mount Olive A.M.E. Church. The event includes dinner, a Silent Auction, a caricature artist and program. Guiding the evening will be master of ceremonies Larry Hart, Deputy Tax Collector and former Fort Myers Police Chief. Cost for the evening is $25 per person and proceeds go to benefit the Lee County Black History Society, Inc. and the Williams Academy Black History Museum.
