| “Recapture that moment when you first looked into her eyes.”
Nope, this isn’t a Valentine’s Day card. If you’ve given birth to a daughter, you know exactly what that means. Well, the National Association of the Mother and Daughter Bonding Network, founded by therapist and motivational speaker Dr. Bessie S. Fletcher wants you to remember it, and celebrate it.
Here’s a way you can do it—take your daughter to see the original production, “A Walk Through History,” which is being put on by Young Entertainers at Heart (Y.E.A.H., LLC) and the M & D Center. This series of skits and monologues showcases African American life throughout history, and also features some of South Florida’s hottest talent in spoken word, fashion design and music. It’ll be performed every Friday night throughout February, Black History Month.
Or, if you’re interested in getting closer to your mom (or any other mother figure in your life), bring her to the Wednesday Open Mic Nights in the Enchanted Garden. It’s a $10 donation to “proceed and partake” (b.y.o.b.). Through poetry, dance, song and conscious rap, you’ll learn a little bit about yourself, and a little bit about each other.
Both events take place at 315 S. 21rst Street in downtown Hollywood. For more info on events and workshops, see (http://www.mdbn.org) or contact Lenise at 954.925.1840, 786.768.8722 or events@mdbn.org. |
