| If Their Eyes Are Watching God still lives in your memory as the best of your required reading days—or, more simply, you’re a fan of Zora Neale Hurston’s celebratory, folkloric writing—note that Zora! Festival ’08 events begin tomorrow in Hurston’s Eatonville birthplace and continue through Sunday, February 3.
Many of the tribute lectures and performances, such as the evening with poet Sonia Sanchez on Wednesday, January 30, are free. But in keeping with how Thurston lived her life (at times, desperately poor enough to take a maid’s job in Miami despite the fact that she was a working, published author), even the events that cost money are no more than a ten-spot. That includes entrance to the crux of the Fest, the ever-popular Street Festival of the Arts, which is $5 for adults on Friday, February 1 and $10 on the following Saturday and Sunday.
