| Don't worry--there's no excavation involved. In fact, this weekend, the arts are going to be above ground and readily available via two great programs, the new ART FEAST and the 19th Annual Downtown Delray Beach Festival of the Arts.
The first, which takes place on Friday, January 18 from 6 to 10 pm, is a joint effort between participating local Pineapple Grove art galleries, such as the Joanne Coia Gallery, the Avalon Gallery and Spotted on 2nd Craft Arts Gallery, where I recently purchased a Natalie Salminen original (can't talk the talk if you don't walk the walk!), and restaurants including City Oyster, 32 East and the new Blue Fish.
Sort of like a gallery walk with hors d'ouevres, this delicious event, which will reoccur throughout the winter and spring (see organizer www.DowntownDelrayBeach.com for details) , will feature special exhibits, wine tastings, musical performances, artist meet-and-greets and more. Each location has its own special surprise--even Old School Square's Cornell Museum of Art & History, which will be showcasing its "Wonderful World of Oz" exhibit until 9 pm that evening. A suggested $2 donation at the door benefits the museum, and other beneficiaries of the evening's venues include the Milagros Center, an art and cultural community center that works with Palm Beach County's at-risk youth.
The second, which showcases the work of 300 award-winning artists, takes place on January 19 and 20 along downtown Atlantic Avenue (from US1 to A1A). Duck into the white tents crowding the sidewalks to discover all manner of paintings, sculpture, jewelry and photography. Admission is free; for more information, visit www.artfestival.com. |
