The last time I saw the B-52's in concert was in Livermore, California. I was at Wente Vineyards--this family-run winery presents a fantastic small venue concert series every summer--and the stage was set in the middle of fully loaded sauvignon blanc grape vines that were trembling with the front girls' liquid trills and the back bass beats. It was an awesome experience, one I never thought I could top.
But now, see, there's Universal CityWalk on New Year's Eve, hosting not only the B-52's but also Foreigner. Tickets cost $119 plus tax, but admission gets you access not only to the main stage, where these two supergroups perform (and by the way, the B-52's will likely be playing new material from their first upcoming studio album in more than a dozen years) but also to every CityWalk restaurant and club from 8 p.m. til 2 a.m. There'll be live DJs and entertainment in each venue. So you can, you know, roam if you want to.
And that's not all. (Insert informercial voice here.) You also get fed. In fact, you'll get stuffed with unlimited, all-you-can-eat amounts of filet migon wrapped in applewood bacon, jumbo shrimp and crab claws with cocktail sauce and Sauce Louie, paella, jambalaya and so much more (with the exception of rock lobster). At midnight, natch, there's champagne, party favors and fireworks.
Now that’s a music-driven street party that’s got something on a vineyard, perhaps.
