Celebrate the Magical Culture of Turkey
February 04, 2009
On my next trip to Europe, I hope to finally visit the magical country of Turkey! For a taste of this Mediterranean nation, visit the University of North Florida Fine Arts Center in Jacksonville on Feb. 17. The evening will celebrate the customs, beliefs and culture of the country.

Starting at 7 p.m., the night will feature live music, the spirited dancing of the Whirling Dervishes of Rumi and the chance to win a free trip to Turkey. Highlighting the nation's music, which contains "core elements of Sufi rhythms and serves mainly as accompaniment for poems of Rumi and other Sufi poets," the program will also feature legendary dance of the whirling dervishes which  "displays infinite spinning in perfect harmony" and is an important ritual in certain sects. Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, this promises to be an exciting and authentic evening!

For tickets and more information, call 904-620-2878 or visit www.atccenter.org.
